We serve local businesses, protects public health and the environment, and promotes a wholesome and ample food supply.

The mission of the Division of Agriculture is to fulfill the mandates of the State of California and to provide quality regulatory services to the citizens of Santa Clara County. 

The County Agricultural Commissioner directs the enforcement programs of the local Division of Agriculture. The Division's primary enforcement mission is to:

  1. Ensure the safe, responsible, and judicious use of pesticides by farmers, pest control companies, government, industry, and the general public;
  2. Ensure a wholesome and healthful food supply; and
  3. Prevent the introduction, establishment, and spread of destructive insects, plant diseases and weeds into the County's urban and agricultural areas.

Apply to become a Certified Private Applicator

Division of Agriculture

To become a certified pesticide applicator, a grower must pass an exam given by our office.

Apply for an Operator Identification Number or a Restricted Materials Permit

Division of Agriculture

All growers that sell their agricultural products must obtain a permit through our office prior to spraying their crops with any kind of pesticide.

Register your pest control business

Division of Agriculture

All pest control businesses, advisors, pilots, and farm labor contractors that work in Santa Clara County must register with our office prior to performing work.

Certify to sell at County farmers markets

Division of Agriculture

Growers must obtain a Certified Producer’s Certificate to sell at a Certified Farmers’ Market.

Request help to identify insects and pests

Division of Agriculture

If you find an unusual insect or spider, and you are unable to identify it using the Internet or other resources, you can bring it to our office for identification.
